COMPANY POLICY

Thank you for choosing Great Movers. Over the years Great Movers have successfully served hundreds of clients, each with different kinds of special requests. When moving, our team will make every effort to meet your highest expectations. However, there are times when customer’s needs and special requests bear certain risks, and we cannot be responsible for the outcome of these requests. In order to avoid any misunderstandings on the actual day of the move, please read carefully our company’s policy below.

Local Moving

  1. Moving Cost. As a local customer you are charged a specified hourly rate, determined by the number of movers requested. You are billed simply from the moment we arrived at your current location, to the completion of the move-in process at your final destination location. There are no additional charges for stairs or long carriers, stairs, assembling, disassembling, wrapping, narrow hallways or long walking distance. Please note that we charge an additional $95 to move each item that weighs 300 pounds or more. For example, an upright piano, armoire, industrial-sized washer/dryers etc. All jobs are subject to 2 hour minimum.

  2. Travel Time.Transportation is charged as Double Driving Time (DDT) and will only be applied to your rate if the distance between pick-up and drop-off locations is more than 15 miles. DDT is required as a way to eliminate additional fuel or trip charges that could otherwise be (illegitimately) applied to your move. Double Drive Time is simply the amount of time it takes our movers to drive between your current location and your destination location. That time is then doubled, and combined with your overall labor time (packing/loading/unloading) for the day. Your overall labor time and your transportation time are combined and then multiplied times your specified hourly rate. Customer responsible for any parking tickets during loading and unloading if it is no place to park.

  3. Labor Time. Labor Time starts once movers arrive to your origin address and ends when movers finish unloading at the destination address. Labor time is calculated based on 15 minute increments at the rate indicated on the estimate. Any travel between the origin and the destination is considered to be part of the labor time.

  4. Arrival time frame. Please keep in mind that we do not provide a specific time of arrival. We offer 2 hour arrival time frames for all jobs scheduled in the am and 4 hour arrival time frames for all the jobs scheduled in the afternoon. Great Movers takes pride in showing up on time, however there are situations that are beyond our control.

  5. Customer presence. The customer or an authorized representative must be present during the move at all times. It is customer’s responsibility to do a final walk-through inspection of the premises to ensure we have taken and delivered everything. Our time runs continuously until all tools and equipment are back in the truck and payment is completed.

  6. Wrapping & Packing Materials. We have additional fees for packing tape, wardrobe boxes, stretch wrap, moving pads.

  7. Additional services. In the event unknown additional services are required to perform your move, these costs will be in addition to the amount stated in your moving estimate. Such services and applicable charges will be based upon the prices and rates in effect on the date of issue of your quote.

  8. Waiting Time. In case our crew arrives at your location as agreed, but you’re not ready for us to start the job, you’ll be billed for our waiting time. Please understand that you’re holding up our team by not being ready for the move.

  9. Parking. Two parking spaces (to accommodate a 24 foot long moving truck) should be provided/secured by the customer. Parking spot has to be located within 75 feet from the entrance. In case a parking permit is needed, it is customer’s responsibility to inform Great Movers. All parking permits have to be obtained by the customer unless otherwise indicated on the move plan. In case there is no parking space available next to the origin/delivery location and the moving truck needs to be parked in a non-permitted space, it is customer’s responsibility to cover the cost of any parking tickets issued to Great Movers.

Additional Policies

  1. Damages and claims. Great Movers provides basic moving insurance for your belongings that takes effect from the time your items first handled by our movers until your items reach your final destination. However, our coverage is basic per the US DOT's standard of $0.60 per pound of damages. For example, if your 30 pound Table is damaged, we're required to reimburse in the amount of $18.00 ($0.60 x 30 pounds = $18.00).  Applicable notes about these damages must be submitted  on the bill of lading on the day of your move before movers leave your premises. Our company standards do assume a full inspection of furniture by both our movers and customers. However, the final inspection is the responsibility of the customer. All of our customers sign a bill of lading upon completion of a move. It reads “The above services were rendered and all goods delivered in good order, except as noted”. For any insurance company this document is critical in noting charges the same day, to ensure the damage occurred that day and that coverage could be provided. Unless payment is made in full as is due we are not required to answer or process a claim. Do not assume you may deduct the money from the final bill to compensate yourself in the event of damage. This is ILLEGAL.

  2. Moving of a refrigerator. We only move empty freezers/refrigerators. Please empty the contents for safe moving. Great Movers will not take responsibility for the mechanical condition of the item, unless visible physical damage was caused in the process of moving.

  3. Moving of an aquarium. Any aquarium to be moved has to be completely empty. Great Movers will not disassemble, reassemble or install any aquarium. Please consult with a proper professional prior to the move.

CUSTOMER’S DECLARATION OF VALUE

Limited Liability

As a licensed common carrier, we are required to provide limited liability coverage at no charge to the customer. Under this option maximum liability is limited to $.60 per pound per article, in the event of damage or loss.

Great Movers takes many precautions to avoid damages to your belongings. In the event damage occurs, the customer and crew are BOTH required to discuss the matter immediately to determine the cause. If damage results from a mistake on the part of Great Movers, every attempt will be made to assess the amount of damage and have it properly fixed. If an amount can be agreed upon between BOTH parties, the matter will be settled immediately with payment in full by Great Movers. If the amount cannot be settled immediately between BOTH parties, the moving invoice must still be paid in full as damage claims are not valid according to insurance regulations if the invoice remains unpaid.
